Frank Buswell Foreshore

The popular Frank Buswell foreshore is set to undergo a transformation with a raft of upgrades happening over the next 12 months and beyond.

Located in East Bunbury along the banks of the Leschenault Inlet the foreshore improvements will include an upgrade of the marine wall, drainage works, a brand-new shared path as well as a new playground and landscaping.

Renewal works to the 315m section of marine wall begin Monday 15 January with the area being fenced off for construction. Works will continue until September with the current pathway inaccessible for the duration of the works.

Please note a temporary detour will be in place allowing for pedestrians and cyclists to continue to their way around the inlet. The playground will still be accessible during this first stage.

Drainage works will also be happening during marine wall construction.

Shared path upgrades

Improvements to the Frank Buswell Foreshore are continuing with footpath upgrades set to take place in May.

The current concrete footpath will be upgraded to a three-metre-wide red asphalt shared path between King Road and Albert Road, further improving the popular Leschenault Inlet trail.

Upgrades will begin on Monday 20 May with the City doing its best to minimise disruptions.

Path detours remain in place for pedestrians and cyclists.

This will improve safety and connectivity for all users. This exciting part of the foreshore redevelopment has been made possible thanks to the State Government’s WA Bicycle Network Grant and matching contributions from the City of Bunbury.

The path is expected to be completed by the end of September.

Beautifying works and landscaping will begin next financial year and will include a new playground for the community to enjoy.

Playground and open space community consultation

Regular users of Bunbury’s popular Frank Buswell Foreshore are being asked to provide their thoughts on a new playground for the area.

The City will soon start work to revitalise the East Bunbury playground and to help inform concept planning, a survey is now open for residents to have their say.

The playground will complement the current works already happening at the foreshore, including open space, landscape and footpath upgrades, seawall improvements and drainage works.

Renewal works to the 315m section of marine wall started earlier this year and are expected to be completed in September.

Installation of a new shared red asphalt path will start in May, improving safety and connectivity.

The playground survey was available open until 10 April 2024. We will report soon with its findings.
